A two-month voyage through the Australian Coast is being halted days after the tragic passing of an older lady who was abandoned by the cruise liner on a distant coastal location.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with shipmates from the cruise ship, but parted ways from the excursion for a break. The liner departed without her and came back after some time after the personnel became aware the woman was not present.

An extensive hunt located her remains the following day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, together with investigators and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company stated that travelers and personnel on the vessel were notified that the remainder of the journey had been cancelled due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

In a statement, he added that travelers would be provided a total repayment, and said the company was working "to organize the return journeys of the individuals via chartered flights".

Regulatory bodies also issued an updated statement, and said they had "provided a notice to the Captain" prohibiting any further travelers from boarding the vessel.

The representative said that they would inspect the vessel in Cairns upon its coming back.

Timeline of Occurrences

The vessel first departed Cairns on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the time of the senior passenger's demise. The remote island was the opening port on the itinerary.

Travelers on board - who typically pay tens of thousands of money to participate in the expedition - were transported there for a day trip with the choice of trekking or snorkeling.

Family Response

The child of the deceased woman said that her family was "stunned and distressed that the vessel left the location after an organised excursion without my parent".

Through her comments, she portrayed her mother as an "active elderly person" who was a member of a hiking club.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it looks that there was a breakdown of attention and common sense," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have done that might have protected Mother's existence".

"According to reports from the authorities that it was a exceptionally warm period, and she fell ill on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"Officials suggested her to head down, unescorted. Then the vessel sailed away, reportedly without doing a headcount.

"During some point in that process, or not long after, she died, alone."

Operator Reaction

In a statement, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "cooperating fully with officials to support their examination".

He stated that the company was "deeply sorry that this has transpired" and had extended its full support to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The liner caters for up to a hundred twenty passengers with nearly fifty personnel, according to official information. It was purpose-built to reach remote areas of the nation's coast and is fitted with "tenders" - small boats used to ferry passengers on day excursions.

Events of this nature are rare, and passenger vessels have systems to document which travelers are embarking or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] onboard just isn't an option," one expert remarked.

Vessel operators take these procedures with great importance and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such incidents from occurring," the specialist further stated.

"This seems to be presumably a stunning - and tragic - isolated incident."
