The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer

Exactly 30 years since the first Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that terrifies Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the frog-shaped tablet will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her shirt.

Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
